Church Planting Update
We have some updates!
We have a target date and timeline for launching our church plant: January-Febuary 2024!
That means we need to begin raising financial support to plant a church! The first thing we need to begin raising financial support for is to begin establishing a legal entity we call church. We generally take for granted that churches have a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, FEIN, registered name with the government, bank accounts, and all of those unseen support systems. There are companies with CPAs and attorneys that help church planters get the right paperwork filed and the right legal systems built out in order to protect this work in a healthy manner. After talking with other church planters, we think that it is wise and prudent to use experts and professionals to assist us in this work. Please pray about and consider financially supporting this work.
The elders of our sending church were also gracious enough to let me preach my first sermon. This gave me an opportunity to begin finding my voice as a preacher, learn, receive feedback, be encouraged, and encourage others to live out the Gospel in practical ways.
Launch Team Updates:
- We have shifted our team to be on an evangelistic footing to begin reaching people in the Cypress/Fairfield Area. We did some evangelism training with our group and will continue to encourage outreach. We have also begun recruiting core team members to help launch a healthy church. If you or someone you know lives near Cypress (Fairfield/Bridgeland area) of Texas, and you are looking for a local church that preaches expositionally from the Scriptures, intentionally makes disciples, and is committed to planting churches, then let's meet for a cup of coffee or shoot me an email! We would love to have you join us for a launch team meeting!
- We began to pray about finding a third-party location to begin meeting as a launch team. I recently reached out to Justin Moore who is the pastor at Faith Chapel. Justin is a friend of mine from the Houston Church planting Network. Justin said they had been praying about how to get more involved and partner with a church plant. They felt this was an answer to prayer and wanted to help out! So, our core team began meeting there last week, which is only a couple of blocks from where we were meeting!
- To launch healthy, we believe we need to start out healthy. We created the first iteration of our basic discipleship curriculum. We have handed out 27 physical copies of our discipleship curriculum so far (even had someone as far away as Montana read a digital copy of it). That curriculum covers topics like evangelism, discipleship, and spiritual disciplines. We are currently using the discipleship curriculum to help start healthy rhythms, strengthen spiritual disciplines, challenge members, and encourage them to be healthy disciples of Jesus. Also, by going through this curriculum, everyone is then trained in the curriculum and can use the curriculum to disciple others. We believe this is only one component of discipleship. We believe that discipleship is a culmination of learning, obedience, and living in Gospel community. We quickly summarize all this by saying: Go to Church, Go to Small Group, Go serve, Go tell, Go disciple. For a copy of that Discipleship Curriculum: Click Here. If you would like a physical copy of this discipleship curriculum and live nearby, shoot me an email. Our plan is to have our discipleship manual become a living document that we fine tuned over time to fit our needs.
In the past, I have explained that there are four ways to get involved in our church plant: 1) Prayer, 2) Financial Support, 3) Joining the Launch Team as an interim member, and 4) Becoming a Launch Team Member.
Please pray for this Kingdom work, consider financially supporting this work, and joining in this work.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Travis Boles
